Dex Bryant Trade Blocked By the League

Criticisms of Veto Process Pour In

A potential deal that would have sent Dez Bryant to Akbar’s franchise and Duke Johnson and Austin Ekeler to Mike’s team was killed by the League after both teams agreed to terms. As AP reported:

The League’s decision to reject a proposed trade involving unsigned Free Agent Dez Bryant set the stage for an awkward morning on September 27 across the nation.

Akbar and Mike thought they had worked out a deal to send the unsigned star to Akbar’s team with journeymen Duke Johnson and Ekeler back to Mike. The league, however, declined to approve the trade; meaning all players will have to report back to their original teams.

After the deal fell through, Dez simply wrote, “WoW”, on his Twitter page.

Ekeler, too, took to Twitter to share his feelings: “When a team trades u and it doesn’t go down? Now what?”

After repots that commissioner Zayd Yunus had killed the deal because of owner complaints, Mostafa Rashid and an anonymous GM both let their disagreement with the proposed trade be known. As Cindy Boren explained:
One GM, Mostafa Rashid, in an email obtained by Yahoo, called the trade “a travesty” and urged that it go to a proper vote to the league. He said of the big and small market teams: “When will we just change the name of 12/14 teams to the Akbar Shariff’s?”.

Yahoo says that the timestamp indicates Rashid sent the email after the trade had been killed. He wrote, in part: “I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.”

Criticisms of Zayd Yunus and the League came fast and furious after news of the blocked trade broke. As Steven A Smith wrote:
With the league chat going off as early as 6:00am PST; managers Akbar and Mike both expressed frustrations with the league and their trade. Paragraphs upon paragraphs were sent, while a witch hunt over the veto-ers has surfaced.

You have to have certain ethical and moral lines you won’t cross to please your superiors. Commissioner Zayd apparently makes up his lines has he goes along.

This article will be updated as more information comes to light.
